Cheshire & Warrington’s primary schools are in the top 10% of primary schools in the UK.
Figures just released by The Department for Education and Skills (DfES) show that primary schools in the Local Education Authority (LEA) areas of Cheshire and Warrington are amongst the cream of the crop. Based on aggregate scores for maths, literacy and science, the figures put Warrington in joint 6th place out of 150 LEAs and Cheshire in joint 12th place with aggregate scores of 256 and 254 respectively.
Martin Lee, Chief Executive of Cheshire and Warrington Economic Alliance (CWEA) says “Quality of education is quoted by many business leaders as a deciding factor in their decisions to relocate or set up business in a new area. We know we have good primary schools in Cheshire and Warrington but it’s great to have these figures re-affirm that. Many of our pupils go on to further and higher education with around 34% of our workforce educated to degree level.”
Councillor David Rowlands, Executive Member for Children’s Services at Cheshire County Council says: “Once again Cheshire has maintained standards above the national level – a tremendous tribute to the hard work and dedication of pupils and teachers alike.”
Councillor Sheila Woodyatt, Executive Board Member for Children's Services at Warrington Borough Council, said:
"We are delighted with these results. Warrington is continuing to improve and we are seeing improvements across the ability range, which is extremely gratifying. We are all very proud of the success of our primary school children, their teachers and all officers within the LEA who support our schools and their pupils.
