Other Local Attractions and Features

Winsford Industrial Estate is located in close proximity to a range of excellent local attractions and park facilities. Below is a summary of some of the main local attractions and features.

Weaver Parkway, Winsford

Wander along the historic Weaver Navigation, through the industrial and natural landscapes of the Weaver Parkway, close to Winsford town centre. Much of the Parkway has been reclaimed from former industrial land, a legacy of the local salt industry, and is now rich in wildlife.
Look out for the herons, perched on the salt piles across the river, next to Britain's only underground salt mine. In summer the meadows are a riot of colour. Tortoiseshell and red admiral butterflies flit amongst the knapweed, while later in the year goldfinches feast on the teasel heads.

Anderton Nature Park, Northwich

Explore Anderton Nature Park, a wildlife haven transformed from industrial wasteland, next to the historic Victorian boat lift and close to Northwich town centre.
Follow the new wildflower trail to discover rare and unusual plants, or watch free aerobatic displays over the dragonfly pond.

Many of the areas around Northwich are legacies of the old salt and soda ash industries, with disused lime beds and shallow pools created by subsidence.

Vale Royal Waterways and Canals

Canal Barge

The River Weaver was straightened in the 18th century to form the Weaver Navigation, enabling larger boats to travel up to Winsford. Coal could then be cheaply imported and salt transported to Liverpool for export across the world.
The waterways are peaceful now and the colourful narrow boats are now used for pleasure not toil. What better way to explore than a trip on one of the regular cruise boats or by hiring a narrowboat? For further information on boat hire and cruising the waterways contact 01606 867531 or email tourism@valeroyal.gov.uk you can also visit the Weaver Valley Cruises website.

For riverside walking, try the Weaver Valley Way running along the riverside between Frodsham and Winsford, or a section of the Cheshire Ring Canal Walk.
